On the shores of Lake Geneva

Nestled between Europe’s largest lake, Lake Léman (also known as Lake Geneva), and the French Prealps, the Publier municipality takes pride in respecting and taking good care of its environment.

The town has been developed around this magnificent natural setting.

Between the lake and the mountains, the municipality spreads out across almost 892 hectares that are separated into two parts:

  • Upper Publier, which includes the town centre and extends from Marin to Évian.
  • The Amphion plain that borders the lake from Évian to Thonon (the Ripaille Domain, the Dranse Delta Nature Reserve).

From top to bottom Publier-Amphion is an atypical municipality highlighted by its rich variety of offerings it provides its inhabitants, happy visitors and holidaymakers.

Publier is a village that is in flower all year round: it blooms twice a year providing a constant floral decoration that moves in rhythm to the seasons, and thanks to this has been awarded 3 flowers by the Towns and Villages in Bloom.

A wide range of activities in a privileged environment

Publier-Amphion has a wide variety of activities and is placed amongst one of the most beautiful climatic and touristic resorts in Haute-Savoie!

Dominated by the French Prealps, where the majestic Dent d’Oche (2222m high) reigns, and soothed by Lake Léman’s azure blue waters, the municipality changes appearance every season and offers a plethora of activities.

Above all, Publier has a privileged relationship with water: the lake, the river Dranse, its freshwater springs, fountains, streams, and Évian mineral water, which is bottled in Publier in the largest mineral water bottling plant in the world!

As a perfect complement to its neighbouring resorts perched up on high, this little town, that caresses the water’s edge, is the region’s ultimate balneotherapy destination.

THE FOUNTAINS

If you wander around Publier you will probably come across numerous fountains, some of them have been designed by artists to underline the constant liaison with water:

  • The white arches decorated with zodiac signs, also known as ‘Souriane à la buvette de Farquenoud’, was designed by Béatrice Sassone and made by Philippe Bouvet from Hauteville hard stone.
  • In front of the Nautical Centre is a sculpture that dominates the “Year 2000 Fountain” of  5 anchors reaching up towards the sky that was created by Brice Viberti.
  • In the centre of Amphion, on the 1005 main road, the stunning Don Quichotte statue is a work by Luc Laroche de Féline.
  • Opposite Super U, Rue du Clos Fleuri, the “Fish Fountain” was created by René Broissand.
  • On Jean Moulin esplanade, at the foot of the Town Hall, the sculpture of two children looking for the frog in the water is Béatrice Sassone’s creation.

PUBLIER IS A GREEN RESORT (STATION VERTE)

Publier hosted the 18th ‘Congress of Green Resorts and Winter Villages in France’, 11th to 13th October 2017, with three other ecologically-committed municipalities, Châtel, Thollon-Les-Mémises and Sciez-sur-Léman. Nearly 200 participants, elected officials from the municipalities concerned and tourism professionals discovered our municipality’s assets (La Cité de l’Eau, the Dranse Park, and others), and associated municipalities.

Remember that the “Green Station” label is over a 50 years old, and 500 municipalities in France are identified.

A Green Resort is a town with less than 10,000 inhabitants that actively engage in eco-tourism, with natural spaces to experience, leisure facilities, a tourist office and suitable, adequate accommodation. This congress delighted its participants with their wealth of information and meetings on the subject of water.
